Renting A Beach House With Family: A Guide To Help You Keep Your Sanity

Family beach vacations can be both delightful and stressful. If you want to make sure that yours tends towards the delightful side and away from the stressful side, then you need to be smart about your planning, especially when it comes to renting the vacation beach home. Here are some guidelines to follow to ensure you get to enjoy your time on the water and at the beach.

Book long in advance.

Don't wait until the last minute to book your beach house, or all of the best ones will already be taken! If you can, plan on booking at least three months in advance; six months is even better.

Make a list of must-have amenities before you start searching.

Before you start looking at specific beach houses that are available to rent, make a list of qualities you absolutely must have in a vacation rental. Maybe you need at least 6 beds to accommodate everyone. Perhaps having two bathrooms is non-negotiable. You can enter these preferences into the search criteria on most rental websites, and then you will only see homes that fit your basic needs. This will save you a lot of time spent searching through vacation homes that are not going to fit your needs well.

When possible, stay closer to the beach.

When you're vacationing with family, gathering up the gang to walk to the beach together can be a task in and of itself! It will be a lot easier if your walk to the beach takes 3 minutes, not 30. You probably don't want to have to keep track of multiple kids on busy sidewalks for a long walk. Look for a vacation home that is a block or two from the waterfront, at most. (This is the perfect balance between paying more for closer beach access and less for a home that's a bit further out.)

Confirm what items are in the beach house so you don't overpack.

If the listing does not tell you what items are included in the house you're renting, reach out to the owner and ask. It's can be convenient if you do not have to pack things like beach towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas, since these can take up a ton of space in luggage when you're traveling with the whole family.

Staying at a beach house with your family can be fun, and following the guidelines above will keep that fun at the forefront. For more information about renting a vacation beach house, contact a local rental company.
